What is Mushroom Microdose?
Psychedelic mushroom microdose have been associated with a range of benefits including improved mental health, increased connection to nature and others, altered states of consciousness, decreased rumination and anecdotes of enhanced creativity.
While research on psilocybin microdosing has been limited, a few studies have found that those who microdose reported improvements in emotional well-being and cognition.7,8 However, some of these studies lacked a control group and therefore can’t be attributed to placebo effects. In a recent study, people who microdosed psilocybin had a lower score on the psychological distress scale than those who did not.9 While the results were anecdotal, they’re a step in the right direction.

But for many, the idea of taking psychedelic mushrooms in small doses seems daunting. How do you know how much to take? What are the risks and side effects? What if you accidentally take too much and have a bad trip?
That’s why a new movement has emerged, one that calls itself mushroom microdose. In short, you take very low doses of psychedelic drugs—typically about a tenth of what it takes to have a psychedelic experience—and repeat the dosage on a regular schedule.
One such example is Tee’s own mom-centric business, Moms on Mushrooms (MOM), a social media platform where parents discuss their experiences with microdosing. She says that, despite the stigma surrounding mushrooms, she’s noticed more and more mothers come to her asking for advice about the practice. She’s even heard of a few microdosing mom groups popping up in cities across the country.
